Project #294 – JDK House

JDK House

This beautiful working farm affords scenic views of ~600 acres of prime Tennessee agricultural land nestled in the northwest corner of the state, just across the levee from the mighty Mississippi River. The property is used mainly for the production of corn and soybeans, but also provides habitat for many species of birds, insects, and other wildlife. Several butterfly species were noted on the property including the monarch, and Snow Geese fill the skies and fields as they migrate along the Mississippi Flyway each winter.

The property is in close proximity to other protected areas, such as Reelfoot Lake National Wildlife Refuge three miles northeast and other wildlife management areas such as the Phillipy Unit and Black Bayou Refuge. Preventing development of large tracts of land in this important region ensures the protection of the pastoral landscape and diversity of migratory waterfowl that embody the beauty of West Tennessee.

In 2021, FLC partnered with the same farmer to preserve close to 650 acres in Hickman County, Kentucky. Click here to learn more about this project.
