Why we exist
We protect the South’s land and legacies.
Foothills Land Conservancy was born when a magnificent piece of land needed our protection. And we’ve been preserving land across the Southeast ever since—one property at a time.

Foothills Land Conservancy was born when a magnificent piece of land needed our protection. And we’ve been preserving land across the Southeast ever since—one property at a time.
Our conservation ethic is rooted in these beliefs:
Celebrating our natural heritage
The woods, rivers, lakes, mountains, and grasslands of the American South are precious assets that will be lost without a committed effort to protect them. We’re honored to take on that responsibility.
Maintaining our rural character
Quiet farmsteads and open spaces hearken back to a different way of life—one we’re proud of. It’s critical to keep these treasures as a part of our landscape.
Protecting family farms
Conservation goes hand in hand with agriculture, and families who want to pass their farms to the next generation should be able to do so. We’re experts in all the ways that conservation can ease a family’s tax burden and ensure that farming can continue forever on their land.
Conserving critical natural habitats
Preserving wildlife habitat is critical to a healthy ecosystem—and a worthy goal in its own right. Acreages owned by families, including farms, often function as important wildlife refuges and botanical conservatories.
Preserving history and legacy
The South’s lands tell a story about the wonders of nature and the people who have lived among them for thousands of years. Each property is unique and can’t be replicated or replaced, and so deserves our protection.
